We understand the challenges that local authorities across the UK face around making funding decisions for adults with disabilities. 

It goes without saying that, especially in the past year, costs of provisions have risen whilst the budget available struggles to keep up. Even with the very best of intentions, providing people with the care and support they deserve whilst balancing the books is a mammoth job.

Our founder, Charlie, has handled caseloads for numerous young adults across London. He’s worked with representatives from many different boroughs, and understands the complexities involved in decision-making when there are several stakeholders involved – not to mention financial constraints to consider.

Otium designs programmes that target its clients’ needs as effectively and empathetically as possible, and with the goal to reduce the number of support hours needed over time. This creates a financially sustainable setup both for you and for the adults you’re supporting. 

How does Otium work with local authorities?

  • We offer a cost-efficient and highly professional service that can meet the needs of autistic adults with complex needs in your borough, who might not be quite the right fit for local centres or provisions. 

  • We aren’t here to complain or criticise LA decisions. We want to make the process smoother for all parties involved. 

  • When parents use our services, we produce realistic and fair proposals that will meet the adult’s needs in a cost-effective way. Although Otium packages might look expensive at first glance, the amount of value that clients receive will set them up efficiently to reduce cost in the long term – many of our plans actually factor in for the number of support hours to be scaled back over only a few years. 

  • We use proven, effective methods of behavioural science to help our clients develop into active, healthy members of their community. This will reduce challenging behaviours and health problems that can lead to more costly situations longer-term.

  • If your borough is struggling to meet needs for the disabled adults in the area, Otium can offer intervention strategies and placements that are viable, effective alternatives to the usual options. 

Other Organisations

Otium also offers support to organisations, charities, educational facilities, & institutions such as care homes or existing SEN centres who require some additional professional guidance in their care for autistic adults who have complex needs.

There are some cases where a client may be generally happy and settled in a placement, but requires some additional help and adjustments.

When you have a full caseload and a limited amount of time, it can be a challenge to support every client to the best of your ability. We’re dedicated to helping professionals like you optimise your ways of working by making sure you have access to the right strategies to achieve the very best outcomes for the adults in your care.

Our staff have plenty of experience dealing with clients from a range of backgrounds with varying degrees of support needs. We understand the challenges that professionals in this industry face, and we are well-placed to provide whatever guidance and advice your organisation needs.
